MATCH REPORTS

16/04 Vs. Kenilworth Town

Worcester's final game of the season saw a squad of 12 players take the trip away to a strong fourth place Kenilworth Town.

The ladies started off slow, but gradually got into the swing of things as the first half progressed.

United controlled the play through the middle of the field. Annie Highway eventually broke the deadlock with a wonderstrike, leaving the Kenilworth keeper with no chance of reaching the shot.

Player of the match Karli Smith curled a wonderful free kick into the box from a 25 yards, allowing for Captain Becky Evans to head into goal. Worcetser were unlucky to conceed, with Kenilworth scoring against the run of play just before half time,

United battled hard going into the second half with all players putting in a shift and their bodies on the line. Karli Smith again, showed her player of the match status by turning a defender and slotting home another goal, just outside of the box.

Worcester's back 3 held strong with Kenilworth continually trying to penetrate, with little to no room to get through. United's keeper Alisha Hine was tested on occassions, however Kenilworth struggled to get the shots they wanted away.

Manager Ryan O'Connor said “The ladies have proved their quality over the season and we are all delighted to be crowned undefeated champions in a very tough league."

"Last season we won both domestic cups and finished runners-up. We are delighted to go one better this season and secure promotion into the West Midlands Premier League.”

08/01 Vs. Redditch United

Worcester's first game of 2017 saw the ladies travel away to title rivals Redditch United.

The ladies were looking to bounce back after narrowly losing 3-2 to Redditch in the West Midlands Regional Cup just before Christmas.

Both teams started strongly with lots of offensive play. Despite Redditch matching the standard of football Worcester were producing, the ladies looked to have the edge and that hard work was rewarded with a super strike from striker Lucy Sinead from just outside the 18 yard box.

Redditch continued to press United's defense but could not break through. Worcester's defensive trio comprised of captain Becky Evans, Lauren Buswell and Becky Hencher stood strong and put their bodies on the line numerous times to prevent Redditch from equalizing.

The last 15 minutes of the game with Worcester still 1-0 ahead, Redditch's forwards continued to pile on the pressure. The match became heated between the two clubs, with Redditch desperate to salvage something from the game. Worcester showed their class and retained their heads continuing to pressurize the Redditch keeper.

8 minutes from time, against the run of play Redditch equalized from a Worcester corner. United bounced straight back and did not let their heads drop, both April Newman and Katie Armentto came close to adding to Worcesters goal tally, but some good saves from the subbed Redditch keeper denied their efforts.

The final whistle ended the game with a 1-1 draw, the first of the season for Worcester United.

Worcester were happy to take a point and now look forward to their remaining league games.
